GLUTTONY

Gluttony is a very important subject just as alcoholism is, it is hoped that this will highlight its importance.

Definition of gluttony

  • Excess in eating or drinking
  • Greedy or excessive indulgence

(Proverbs 13:25) The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

(Proverbs 23:1-6) When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. -- Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats:

(Proverbs 25:16) Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

(Proverbs 27:20) Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

(Proverbs 30:21-22) For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear: For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;

(Job 15:27) Because he (speaking of a wicked man) covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.

(Jeremiah 5:28) They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

When Esau sold his birthright for "one morsel of food" he demonstrated that fleshly things, such as food, were far more important to him than spiritual things

(Romans 12:1) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,

It is impossible for anyone to present there bodies as a "holy living sacrifice" when they are indulging themselves by over eating.

(Philippians 3:18-19) For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.

These scriptures show that one of the attributes of the wicked is that they cannot satisfy their appetite for food, causing many to end up fat.
