Now the first day of the feast of
unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt
thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go
into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is
at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And
the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the
passover. (Matthew 26:17-19)
The Jews therefore, because it was the
preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath
day, for that sabbath day was an high day, besought Pilate that their
legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. (John 19:31)
And that day was the preparation, and
the sabbath drew on. (Luke 23:54) [Speaking of the annual high sabbath of
unleavened bread]
It clearly states that he was crucified on the annual high holy
day of Passover.
How is Passover to be held?
The fourteenth day of the second month at even they
shall keep it, and eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. They shall
leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it:
according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it. (Numbers
9:11-12)
They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor
break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover
they shall keep it. (Numbers 9:12)
And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the
passover of the LORD. And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast:
seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten. (Numbers 28:16-17)
What time was he crucified?
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land
unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud
voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God,
why hast thou forsaken me? Some of them that stood there, when they heard
that, said, This man calleth for Elias. And straightway one of them ran, and
took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave
him to drink. The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to
save him. Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the
ghost. (Matthew 27:45-50)
And it was about the sixth hour, and
there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun
was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when
Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend
my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. (Luke 23:44-46)
And it was the preparation of the
passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your
King! (John 19:14)
How long in the grave?
An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there will be
no sign given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: for as Jonas was three
days and three nights in the whale's belly, so will the Son of Man be three days
AND three nights in the heart of the earth (Matt 12:39-40)
After
three days
I will rise again. (Matt 27:63)
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must
suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests,
and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. (Mark
8:31)
they will kill him, and after that he is killed, he will rise the third
day. (Mark 9:31)
Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up. (John
2:19) ...But he spake of the
temple of his body. (John 2:21)
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how
that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was
buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
(1 COR 15:3-4)
What day did he rise?
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn
toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to
see the sepulchre. (Matthew 28:1)
And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene,
and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they
might come and anoint him. And very early in the morning the first day of
the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they
said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the
sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away:
(Mark 16:1-4)
Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the
morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had
prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away
from the sepulchre. (Luke 24:1-2)
The first of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early,
when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from
the sepulchre. (John 20:1)
