Holy Spirit
According to the Trinity doctrine, the holy spirit is the third person of a Godhead.
But how does the Bible describes the Holy Spirit?
The word most frequently used for "spirit" is ru'ach, meaning "breath; wind; spirit." In the Greek Scriptures, the word is pneu'ma, having a similar meaning.
spirit7307 = rûach roo'-akh From H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, that is, a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; figuratively life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extension a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (including its expression and functions): - air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit ([-ual]), tempest, X vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).
spirit7308 = roo'-akh (Chaldee); corresponding to H7307: - mind, spirit, wind.
spirit4151 = pnyoo'-mah From G4154; a current of air, that is, breath (blast) or a breeze; by analogy or figuratively a spirit, that is, (human) the rational soul, (by implication) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ’s spirit, the Holy spirit: - ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind.
Holy40 = hag'-ee-os From ἅγος hagos (an awful thing) compare G53, [H2282]; sacred (physically pure, morally blameless or religious, ceremonially consecrated): - (most) holy (one, thing), saint.
comes1607 = ek-por-yoo'-om-ahee From G1537 and G4198; to depart, be discharged, proceed, project: - come (forth, out of), depart, go (forth, out), issue, proceed (out of).

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come."
In context to Mathew 12, the people had just witnessed Christ performing a miracle through the power of the holy spirit of God by removing a demon from a man, but the Pharisees attributed it to the powers of Satan. Christ explained this could only be done by the spirit of God, but they refused to accept it. It points out that the rejection of the work of God's holy spirit prevents it working in our lives to fully know and accepting our Lord.
Mark 1:10 "And immediately upon coming up from the water, the sky opened and the spirit4151 fell upon him like a dove."

John 7:37-39 "Should any man thirst, let him come to me and drink. For he that believes on me, as the scripture says, out his belly will flow rivers of living water, now he spoke of the spirit4151, which they that believe on him would receive, for the Holy40 Ghost4151 had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified."
John 14:17 "The spirit4151 of truth of whom the world cannot receive because it does not seek him or knows him. But you know him because he dwells with you, and will be in you."

Romans 8:9-17 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit,4151 if so be that the Spirit4151 of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit 4151of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit4151 is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit4151 of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit4151 that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit4151 do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit4151 of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit4151 of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit4151 of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit4151 itself beareth witness with our spirit,4151 that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
"The Spirit of Christ", does this now mean there is a fourth god head?
1 Corinthians 2:10 "God has revealed to us through his spirit4151".
1 Corinthians 6:19 "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy40 Ghost4151 in you, which is of God,"
2 Corinthians 13:14 "and the communion of the Holy40 Ghost4151 be with you."
Galatians 5:22-23 "The fruit of the spirit4151 is love, joy, peace, endurance, gentleness, faith, meekness, and soberness."
1 John 3:24 "And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him.846 And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit4151 which he hath given us."
In Matthew 1:20 "Do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the holy spirit." Clearly Christ was conceived by the holy spirit, yet Christ called God his father and not the holy spirit. This alone should make it clear that the holy spirit is no more than a power of God, else Christ would have called the holy spirit his father.
It is the act of our repentance, and then being baptized that opens our body to the reception of the spirit to dwell within us. Though it is possible to receive the spirit before baptism, Acts 10:47-48, baptism is still necessary as a part of repentance.
The spirit actually resides within the body when accepted. The spirit of God dwelling within one is what makes ones body a temple of God.
There are three things that bear witness to Christ, 1 John 5:7, the water of baptism, the blood on the cross, and the spirit of God.
But at some point during the fourth century the Church of Rome added the following verse to 1 John 5:7-8 "in heaven, the Father, the word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth" this was done due to the controversy brewing at the time of whether or not the spirit was a third personage. Some Bibles have deleted this while others have not.
The spirit acts as a comforter in that it increases our faith and knowledge of God, and his plan for his people.
Reading through these verses it should become clear that the spirit is an energy force that flows out from God in what is usually a positive way. It is a force that flows out from God and into his people, instilling wisdom and understanding, increasing faith and strength. It works within remolding our human spirit into godly spirit.
Nowhere in the Old Testament do we find any clear indication of a Third Person, only given attributes as to the working characters it possesses which in themselves do not make it a being.
The spirit is a free gift, offered generously through Gods love, but given only to those that seek it.
