Jesus Birthday

The Birth of Jesus our Christ

There is no mention any were in scripture of the exact date of Jesus birth date. The only scripture that has anything to mention about it is found in Luke 2 :

"And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb." (Luke 2:1-21)

Was Jesus born in a stable?

"... Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn." (Luke 2:5-7)

Did Mary arrive in Bethlehem the night she gave birth? The Bible does not say, only that " while they were there" [in Bethlehem], she gave birth. And because there was no room at the inn they placed him in a manger.

Did three kings riding camels come to Jesus’ birth? The Bible does not say that any kings or camels visited young Jesus.

It only says wise men (“magi”) came, but it does not say how many. Since the word “magi” used in the Bible is plural, there were apparently at least two, and could have been more. The Bible only mentions three gifts they presented, gold, frankincense and myrrh, but this does not necessarily indicate the number of magi.

Before the arrival of the magi in Bethlehem, Jesus had traveled to and from Jerusalem for his presentation at the Temple (Luke 2:21-39).
So the wise men did not visit Jesus when he was still lying in the manger, as is commonly portrayed. By this time, based on the calculations of King Herod and the magi (Matthew 2:16), Jesus could been two years old or under.

Was Jesus born on the 25th of December?

There are two things to keep in mind here, first the people were commanded to go to there home city for the purpose of taxation, and second, the Sheppard's were out in the fields at night. The people would not have been ordered to travel during a season that would have presented difficulties in travel, and the Sheppard's would not have been out in the fields at night. This makes his birth most likely during summer or early spring, and not in December.

God did not have the date recorded, just as God did not let the children of Israel see Him, lest they try to make images of him (Deuteronomy 4:15-19). So it makes sense that God did not have the date of Christ's birth clearly recorded as he did not want it to be observed.

So why do many Christians celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December, if that is not when he was born?

The date was chosen by the Roman Catholic Church since no one knows the day of his birth. The Roman Catholic Church felt free to chose this date since the Church wished to replace a pagan festival celebrating the annual return of the sun with a Christian holy day (holiday). Seeing that it would help bring converts to the church, and that it would be easier to take away an unholy traditional festival if it were replace with another one.

Something to remember! Satan has a counterfeit for everything that involves God and his son.
