Working and Preparation of Famine

We are commanded to work, and there is no reason for any healthy person not to work. Yes we all go through some rough times during our life, but if you keep looking and trust in the Lord, you will find work. There is always something one can do, even if it means volunteering time to help others while waiting for something to come along.

It is in this way we show our faith and obedience, as well as, an example to others of what one can achieve by working.

But won’t God provide?

God is a provider for his people, but they must be attempting to provide for themselves. He will not do for what you should be doing for yourself.

Exodus 20:8 " Six days you will labor, and do all your work."

Proverbs 6:9-11 " Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

Proverbs 13:4 "The soul of the loafer desires, and has nothing, but the soul of the industrious will be full."

Proverbs 18:9 "He that is slack in his work is a brother to him that is a great waster."

Proverbs 19:15 "Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger."

Proverbs 20:4 "The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing."

Proverbs 21:25 "The hunger of the lazy kills him, for his hands refuse to work."

Proverbs 24:30-34 "I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man."

Proverbs 26:14 "As a door turns upon its hinges, so does the lazy upon his bed."

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 "... to work with your own hands as we command you, that you may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that you may lack of nothing."

2 Thessalonians 3:10-15 "For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother."

1 Timothy 5:8 "If there are any that do not provide for themselves, especially his own family, he does deny the faith, and he is worse than an unbeliever."

You are not just to sit around and expect others to take care of you. Idle hands can only breed mischief and damnation
