Myth or fact: God won't give us more than we can handle...

There’s a statement people love to throw out in difficult times: "God won’t give you more than you can handle." But that’s not actually in the Bible. God does say He won’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear and that He always provides a way out. (1 Corinthians 10:13) But that’s not the same as God not giving us more than we can handle. God doesn’t cause these things but He does allow them… and, trust me- I know that can be hard to process.

The world is filled with people who are dealt more than they can handle. And surprisingly, so is the Bible. The Apostle Paul wrote: "We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead" (2 Corinthians 1:8-9, NIV). Did you catch that? That we might rely on God, who raises the dead, instead of relying on ourselves!

What incredible hope for our hearts. God doesn’t expect us to handle this. He wants us to hand this over to Him. He doesn’t want us to rally more of our own strength. He wants us to rely solely on His strength. My dear friend, I don’t know what you are currently facing that feels like more than you can bear, but I pray that you will let these words I’m typing out today bring you peace.

Yes, God will give us more than we can handle. But He says we can hand it over to Him. And He promises He always has eventual good in mind. Choose to hand over to Him all that you don't understand all that is overwhelming you this moment. Declare His goodness in bringing you in and through whatever situation you are dealing with today, and believe He is working all things for your good as well as for His glory! Live for Him!
